Personal Statement free essay sample

When I first walked onto northens campus I immediately knew that this is where I belonged. I knew from the beginning that this was the school for me because I feel like I am so different then everybody else. What distinguishes me form the rest of my peers is the many obstacles that I have overcome. What has honestly made me who I am today is when my friend Nick died. He always told me â€Å"Chrissy, stop being afraid to take risks.† Going away to school was always in the back of my head so when I thought about Nick I thought to myself that I would be silly if I didn’t. What also made me make up my mind about school was when my older sister dropped out of high school at the age of 16 years old. Me being four years younger I know that I just wanted to make my mom happy. Nick was the most important person in my life at the time when he passed. When he died it made me realize how short life really is. Because he died so young he became my motivation. I live my life for me and Nick. He was going to moraine valley at the time when he passed. He had a strong head on his shoulders, so I can only hope that I can have a strong head also, if not stronger. When he told me to stop being afraid to take risks, everything suddenly hit me that I am growing up and that I am going into the real world so why not take opportunities that will only benefit me in the end. My older sister Tarrah also motivates me to get things done. She dropped out of high school so young. Because she is such a failure now at 23 and now it’s my time to go to college. I want to give my mom something to be proud of. I don’t want her to feel like she raised her kids the wrong way or that we will give up on just anything that we try. I know that my mom is holding me up to such high standards but doesn’t want to tell me because she doesn’t want stress put on me. I am trying my hardest to make my mom and Nick proud. I know that this is the school for me for many reasons. I’ve learned so much about myself within the past couple of years. I found out that I am strong physically and mentally. The obstacles in my life have not stopped me from pursuing my life, but have made me a stronger person. I know that anything that is thrown at me, I could handle. Anything I put my mind to, I can do it. What makes me standout from the rest of my peers is my motivation to get things done. I would make a perfect fit to Northern because there are very few people left that actually want to learn and that will not give up for no circumstances. Personal Statement free essay sample A shatter of glass. An incessant ringing. Sounds that shook me from a different realm to face an unbearable reality. My mother’s body convulsing on its own. Her face becoming paler by the second as life was being drained out of her. I was there in body, but my mind was floating above me watching as the scene unfolded on its own. I could see myself shouting desperately, tenderly shaking her in fear that any remaining piece of her would fall off. The unconscious tears that slid down my mother’s deadly calm face fed me with a hope that she was still alive. Bright red and blue lights flashing across my face accompanied by a crying siren that filled my ears. I remember seeing strangers rushing past me and shouting foreign commands, taking my mother from my shaking hands. Then, after all the chaos was gone, there fell an eerie silence enveloped me as I was left alone waiting. If you would have asked me later on that day what had happened or what did I do? I would have not been able to answer your question. My mind had those memories hidden from me providing me protection from myself, but little did my mind know that its safe haven would not last forever. No one spoke of what happened. No one dared utter a word of why it happened. Everyone hoped that it would go away like a passing fly, but like a fly, it will eventually come back until it is let out. I started out with little things. A slight acceleration on a sharp curve. Sneaking out past bed time to hang out with friends. Building up lie after lie, sometimes in hopes of being caught just so I could let some anger out. Slowly, my life was going into a downward spiral. Not only was it affecting my personal life, but it was affecting me in school as well. I began caring less and less about whether I made it to school on time, whether I kept my grades up, a nd even if I made it out alive before my junior year. I was being swallowed into a dark pit of despair without a sliver light to give me hope, but as if it were a miracle, I saw a ray of light that shook me to my very core, waking me up from a restless sleep and made me see reason. A reason to continue on with my life and realize that I had a purpose. I soon discovered that I needed to speak with someone about the dark storm that kept brewing inside me, before it was too late. At first, it seemed strange speaking to someone whom I knew nothing about. Was she thinking I was a freak? Does she even care? Why am I doing this again? All those questions ran through my head in fear that she would judge me, but as soon as I saw her warm smile, I knew she would not. Hesitant at first, I began to trust her and confide to her my secrets. She, herself, reciprocating with unbiased looks and caring advice. Progress has been slow, but since then I have become stronger, and have been able to mend t ogether the once broken pieces of me. Everyday I feel a difference in myself since the day my mother tried to overdose. With the help of my psychologist, I have been able to let go of those haunting memories, and pull myself out of my drowning depression. Because of the help my psychologist gave to me, it inspired me to pursue a career in that field. I would like to help those who are or have gone through a traumatizing event. Everyone deserves a helping hand no matter what they are going through. I always wonder what would have happened if my mother would have had that helping hand. Would it have prevented her from wanting to end her life? How my life could have been different if had not gone through that? Well, I want to be that helping hand for those who need it. I want to be that change in their life that turns out for the best. Personal Statement free essay sample â€Å"People change and things go wrong, but always remember, life goes on.† On September 21, 1993 I was born in Hope hospital. I grew up in Chicago the first five years of my life then I moved to Oak Lawn. Over the years I learned that the only person you can trust is yourself. Having two sisters made me realize that throughout the hard times family will be there for you. All I need to be successful is me, myself and I. The two people I need to keep moving forward is my best friend and myself. I am who I am and if it doesn’t please someone that’ fine because my life is controlled by me, not anyone else. To begin with, my best friend has a great effect on me. She’s been through so much with me and is the only one who has never judged me. She pushed me to get a job and to make sure I do well in school. We will write a custom essay sample on Personal Statement or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Even when I lost my job she still pushes me to get one. Jen is the only one who makes sure I don’t put my life in the wrong path. She encourages me to stay strong and to do what I want. I rely on her for her support and word. She influences me to become a nurse because I love helping people. When she needs someone to listen I’m there for her. Without her by my side I’m not sure where I would be. Helping others and listening to their problem makes me feel happy because I know I’d be able to help them out. It lets me get the satisfaction of knowing I can help others out, just like what Jen does for me. The way people act after knowing something good pleases me because I love seeing people happy and smiling. Jen wants what’s best for me even if it means she has to push me and yell at me. Our friendship started rocky at first because I heard things about her which weren’t so great. I finally gave her a chance junior year in 4A PSAE. The thing th at made me know she was a true friend was when got in a big argument and after it was resolved she told me â€Å"you were the one who listened, you were the one who cared, you were the one who had my back, you are my best friend.† She’s important to me because honestly without her I wouldn’t know who I would be. She helped me made me the person I am today. Having her in my life keeps me sane and it keeps me pushing forward. Her opinion means something to me and so does her trust. In addition, people would be able to tell me from the rest is by how straight forward I am. I speak what’s on my mind and it doesn’t bother me what others think. I hate lying so I try to tell the truth as much as possible. I’m really outgoing and rarely ever shy. I like to meet new people and I have no problem starting a conversation with someone new. At first I can come off as rude or mean but it’s only because I find it extremely hard to trust someone. It’s hard for me because I’ve had friends turn on me in seconds over things that shouldn’t have mattered. I lost a good friend because she turned against me so I left her. Once you finally get to know me you’ll realize how nice I am. People influence my attitude and behavior daily. I’m extremely friendly and very social. Someone new to me is just a great way to make a new friend. Unlike most people, they care too much what others think. I view it as if someone doesn†™t like me then I’m doing something right. To have someone to not like me shows that my opinion is affecting others. I put others before myself because I don’t want a bad decision to affect someone. I know I’m different and original from most people. I try to not ask my parents for anything. I like to be independent and know that what I’m doing in life is because I got there, by myself. Going into a nursing field will give me the guide that I need to stay independent. Making my own money was a big accomplishment to me. I rarely ever asked my parents for money which I loved. People say money can’t buy happiness but money can buy things that will make someone happy. Something that will always have me stand out from the rest is how trustworthy and reliable I am. I don’t tell peoples business to others, I keep it to myself. If someone needed something from me, I’m there. I would never turn my back completely on someone without them doin g wrong to me first. The person I am today is a matured high school student with the ambition to become a nurse. To sum it up, I wish to be successful in my life and to accomplish that I need my best friend to keep my going and for myself to never give up. In the past seventeen years I’ve learned that when people or things change, I shouldn’t let it affect on me. I’m different because I keep my mind open to new things and I don’t let things get to me. Happiness is a key to great success. Personal Statement free essay sample At 7:11 a.m., the morning of August 29th, 1994, my twin brother Ramzi was born. Two minutes later, I was born, setting the stage for a lifetime of competition that would become the driving horse behind both of our aspirations and hard work. Throughout our entire existence, my brother and I have been competing for superiority. This competition has prepared me for the rigors of college and life in general. My family has seen many accomplishments and the bar for success has been set high, helping me strive to achieve in school. The success that I have seen my family achieve has shaped the ambitious mindset that I live by today. As a result, I never give up and try my hardest to achieve any and all challenges that approach me. My personality has been built around my powerful motivation to succeed. This mindset enables me to triumph over any task set forth me, regardless of significance, and employ all of my attributes to successfully rise to a certain challenge. The person that has most influenced my goals is my sister, Reem. She has had an astounding effect on my upbringing, thoughts, and actions. I have adopted my sister’s personality, sense of humor, and sense of understanding. She has taught me how to speak to people and how to be comfortable whilst speaking to others. My sister has also taught me how to be respectful and how to handle different situations. Therefore, every time I have a doubt on how to approach a situation, I think of how my sister would act. Although I have learned a lot from my sister, she has also encouraged me to create my own way of how to think and handle certain situation. Reem has taught me to never sell myself short; because of her I give one hundred percent effort towards everything that I ever do in school or in my life. She has helped me realize that potential is comprised not only of personal strengths, but also of knowing how to capitalize on those strengths. Her life lessons have benefited me in countless ways and there is no other person that could have impacted my goals as much as she has. Abraham Lincoln once said, â€Å"A goal properly set is halfway reached.† I strongly believe that in order to get what you want; you have to know what you want. At my young age, I am fortunate to know that I was born to study and practice law. remember, I have always been keen to detect unfairness and persistent about finding ways to achieve justice. I have a natural inclination to try to find ways to help or support others, especially when accused of acts they didn’t do. I have always been aware of the rules and regulations around me and always try to abide by them to the best of my ability. Being aware of rules is essential to understanding the expectations of behavior, so one can act accordingly. My upbringing stressed being an overall good person and always helping those in need, and there is no better way to do that than to defend an innocent person in court. I also have an interest in politics and would like to develop a better understanding of the ins and outs of the government to enable to become more knowledgeable lawyer and a better citizen. I understand that in order to achieve my goal I will have to work hard and make many sacrifices but I know that in the end, it will be worth it. Since I can
