China’s nationalism or People’s National Consciousness got ideologically drawn from diverse sources including Chinese American thinking, Marxism, Russian ethnological thought and American progressivism (Lee and Hock 28). Nationalism aimed at transforming China’s prosperity by overthrowing the Manchus and limiting the influence of foreign imperialism. Democracy was to proclaim the people’s rights by establishing a republic governed by a constitutional monarchy and not the imperial system. Undoubtedly, nationalism and people’s rights became his primary principles where people had to own the rights of Referendum, Initiative, Recall, and Election. Subsequently, democracy separated the different roles of the government incorporating five powers of the government of Legislation, Judicial, Execu tive, Examination and Control ((Lee and Hock 30). Comparison of Three (3) Paintings Essay Theme: The Battle of the Amazons, 1618 by Pieter Pauwel Rubens seems to be of war, violence and the dire need to finish a battle no matter the cost while the Heart of the Andes, 1859 by Frederic Edwin Church seems to be about the vastness and beauty of nature in its balance of contrasts between light and darkness, massiveness and diminutiveness, power and weakness. The Volga Boatmen, 1870-73 painted by Ilya Repin, however, depicts the theme of undesired yet unconscious captivity. Mood: The mood conveyed by this painting called The Battle of the Amazons, 1618 is one of disturbed turmoil while the Heart of the Andes, 1859 gives one the feel of tranquility and peace. The Volga Boatmen, 1870-73 however, affects you by making you feel hopeless. Meaning: Rubens’ painting, The Battle of the Amazons, makes me feel disturbed because of the war between two determined forces that will do everything to win. However I see an underlying chauvinist message because the drama in this picture shows that the men are on top of the situation and that the women are driven to go below the bridge and die. It does show the courage and strength of women despite the drive of the masculine to be victorious though. For me, Church’s Heart of the Andes, 1859 is so full of meaning in the context of Christianity. The cross is so small amidst its surrounding mountains, trees and river. I feel that it just shows that we are in a world where we cannot control nature. All we can hold on to is faith. It also conveys the message of hope. One could see that the water rushes with force near the waterfalls but calms down by the banks. It could mean that one tends to focus on turbulent areas of his life but the calm beyond it is there to bring hope. This is also seen with the contrast of light on the left side of the painting and darkness or cloudiness at the side of the mountains. It is innate in nature to be a balance. There cannot be too much darkness without the promise of light. Repin’s The Volga Boatmen, 1870-73 is a painting that seems to tell me that one is imprisoned into captivity because of one’s job as a boatman. Although there is no one guarding or holding you in custody, the mere plight of having to work detains you and sentences you to a life of burden and unhappiness. Although there are boatmen in the painting that seem to joke or even smoke a pipe, these do not eliminate the harshness of life. It shows a contradiction because although the area where they are situated in seems to be vast, they do not see the potential for life. Similarities: These paintings are similar in the sense that they portray life in its real sense. The Battle of the Amazons shows that women will never win against men in the brutality of physical strength. The Heart of the Andes shows that nature will take its course no matter what and that hope is just there if you will just recognize it. The Volga boatmen shows that life is dreary if you are burdened with work that you don’t love. In the matter of colors, the palette used were all of natural shades which seem to mean that these paintings are all about life and human nature. Contrasts: These paintings contrast each other because of the messages they seem to convey. The Battle of the Amazons show that one has to fight to get what he wants in life. The Heart of the Andes seems to show that one will eventually get what fate will give no matter what he prays for. The Volga Boatmen simply tells us that life means nothing so you just have to live it everyday. The paintings also differ in its approach because the Battle of the Amazons shows a very tight scene full of action in every space while the Heart of the Andes shows little action at all while the Volga Boatmen conveys no movement from its subject despite their efforts to pull their burden.

Any single culture is multidimensional, and in this time of globalization, people belonging to various cultures are sharing common workplace where they are bound to interact with one another. This situation certainly calls for a thorough training on cultural competency for all members of any multicultural organization, and especially for the managers who have the job to unify all employees’ aims and aspirations with the goals of their company. Such a task is easier said than done; as there is plethora of instances where cultural difference has shattered the dreams of the company. However, there is no dearth of opposite instances too, where successful implementation of multicultural philosophy has brought in sustainable competitive advantage for the companies. In either way, this state of affairs substantiates the importance of seriously considering â€Å"organization as culture† and adopting right steps to achieve the status of a true-blue multicultural organization. Such situations can occur anytime at any multicultural set up, which can begin with little differences like meaning of a word, eating habits, or religious practice, whatever, and that can fuel a bigger set of difference, if not timely diffused. For example, the word, â€Å"monkey† contains hint of racism in some parts of the world, while it is only a simple definition of primate in the other. Now if someone from that special part of the world is called a monkey, s/he might react furiously, no matter how innocent the caller is. Understandably, such channel noises , are the outcome of one’s ignorance about others’ culture. Specific Problems in Multicultural Environment This takes place when cultural difference puts spanner in the process of work. This too, can emerge out of various situations like managers’ or employees’ biases about their culture, or from ignorance about â€Å"what means what†. What these theories do is, they form the foundation of understanding among humans, which is the prime condition to rise above any cultural biases and to accept the fact that humans are all equal at their basements. ERG Theory This is an improvised version of Abraham Maslow’s (1908-1970) famous model of Hierarchy of Needs (Maslow’s, 2008), created by Clayton Alderfer after prolonged research, which adds more flexibility in determining the needs of an individual, which it does by reorienting the elements from Maslow’s model into three segments like Existence (E) – It involves physiological and safety needs. Relatedness (R) – It contains social and external esteem needs. Growth (G) – Self-actualization and internal esteem needs. (ERG, 2007). Clayton’s model allows to set the order of needs according to the existing need structure of an employee, besides providing the scope to pursue different needs simultaneously. Accordingly, company can motivate any individual on any of the E, R or G needs – while looking after an individual’s E need (say, where an employee needs a safety measure), the company can look after the same individual’s R needs (like awarding her for her achievement) and G needs (inducting the individual in the think tank of the department). Expectancy Value Theory Founded by Martin Fishbein in the 1970-s, suggesting that people â€Å"mould themselves to the world in accordance with their expectations/beliefs and evaluations† (Expectancy, 2004). This serves as a pointer to the fact that behavior or behavioral intentions or attitudes evolve out of expectancy and evaluation, where the expectancy is an idea about a situation or object and evaluation is one’s estimation about the impact of that idea/situation/object on any plane. Theories Groom Vision  If the entire team of a workplace can adopt a vision in the light of the Expectancy Value Theory, where they would ‘expect’ that they are devoted to the collective goal. Once armed with this vision, the following areas of communication would definitely take a new turn as the outcome of reorientation of one’s approach to the world: Intrapersonal communication: The vision would make the employee think like â€Å"I’m attached to an important organ of the society and thus I have more responsibility to meet its expectations†. Communication with clients: The vision will make the employees more patient and taking interest in communicating with clients belonging to another culture. Team Communication: There would be less conflict of ego or other minor areas of personal interests, as the greater cause will influence all members to align their approach towards the perceived goal (achieving high standards of service).

His way of running the company is based on creativity, hard work and being frugal in his own life as well as the way he runs his company.So frugal that when employees travel they must share hotel rooms, a policy not carried in any major company. The participants ranged in age from eight to eleven years old. My leadership included the solicitation of local vendors, the registration and supervision of the participants and the organization of the awards ceremony. Historically, the event had been run by the Jane Doe, but due to waning membership in recent years, they were not planning to continue the tradition last year. My sister and her friends, third graders last year, were especially disappointed with this prospect. For several weeks prior, they had been talking about what they were planning to paint for the upcoming contest. Seeing their disappointment, I took the initiative to contact a member of the Jane Doe to implore the continuation of the contest. When he said that none of the members were able to undertake the organization of the event, I asked if I could manage the project on their behalf. Given their lack of resources, he welcomed my offer and my enthusiasm. For several weeks prior to the contest, I devoted most of my free time to the project. And I’m happy to say that, despite my other commitments to school and extracurricular activities, the event was extraordinarily successful. Over seventy-five vendors and more than one hundred children participated in the event. The greatest reward for me was in seeing the delight on the children’s faces both during and after the painting. Even the town took on a more festive look throughout the Halloween season. From this experience, I have learned that nearly anything can be accomplished when you set your heart and mind to it. Many would simply have accepted the departure from a long-time town tradition. I’ve also learned that even the largest of projects is nothing more than a series of small and manageable tasks. The road to success is in learning to approach them one step at a time. In retrospect, I might have managed the project a little differently in light of conflicting obligations at that time. If I had it to do over, I am confident that I could have solicited assistance from friends and neighbors to manage some of the smaller tasks. In conclusion this experience has shown me how to think about and accomplish other objectives in life. Nothing in life is unattainable if you set your mind to it and commit yourself. Is it a good idea for those individuals convicted of armed robbery to receive double the sentence that it is now? In my opinion the answer is no. Policy making in the field of criminal justice is extremely vital to society. Punishments can be very confusing in the fact of what is appropriate. What is too much and what is too little? There have been many studies that show that there is little or no deterrent of crime such as armed robbery when the punishment is a long sentence to prison. The reason for this lack of deterrent is because the person who is committing the crime or crimes knows what is at stake, yet he or she chooses to commit the robbery anyway. This is because the gains of that robbery outweigh the prison sentence. The main purpose of this bill is to stop or at least lessen the amount of armed robbery that is being committed by putting those who commit the crime behind bars for a longer period of time. This seems like a good idea at first glance. However there is more to this proposition. Lengthening the prison sentence is being used as a deterrent or to simply take the bad guys off the street for longer. This has not worked in the past and will not work now. Facing a long sentence has not deterred robbery from happening. If prison sentencing was enough robbery would not be around in society especially not as frequent as it is today. According to a study done by the FBI in 2006 447,403 robberies were reported to the police, which equals out to a rate of one robbery per minute in the United States (McGoey, 2014). The punishment for robbery can be up to 25 years in the United States. Doubling that and making the sentence 50 years will hardly make any change in the robbery rate. If anything it would just cause the jails and prisons to  become overpopulated quicker, costing taxpayers more money. Bill Recommendation There are more effective ways to address a crime than make the punishments more intense or longer. The classic school of criminology is what I base my recommendation on. In the late 1700’s, which are the time that the classical school came about, the punishment for crimes was extremely cruel and would be seen today as barbaric. Cesare de Beccaria and Jeremy Bentham played a tremendous role in the theory of criminology and criminal justice today would not be where it is without them. Their main focus was to lessen the harsh punishments implemented by the judicial system at the time (Schmalleger, 2012). Cesare de Baccaria believed that preventing crimes would benefit a society more than punishing someone who committed a crime. This belief was the driving force of the classic school of criminology. He believed the punishment should fit the crime for instance theft should be punished through the use of fines and crimes that cause personal injury to be punished by corporal punishment. This would, in turn he believed, prevent these crimes from happening. Jeremy Bentham viewed crime a little differently than Beccaria. Bentham was viewed as a utilitarian. He believed that the punishment for any crime must be that of the greater good for the community. Basically stating that any pain being used as a punishment towards an offender must be justified to benefit the good of the society. Modern criminal justice still holds its foundation in that of the classic school of criminology. Having said that, long prison sentences do act as a major deterrent for many criminals, but poses a major conflict of ideas to that of the classic school of thought due to the fact that crimes are committed based on free will and rational thinking. Juvenile criminals usually mature into adult criminals, so perhaps putting more criminal emphasis on juvenile crime must be done. In addition to everything, it is well known that drugs are the foundation of many crimes. Drugs are responsible for many thefts and robberies, and more time behind bars is not going to make a drug addict think twice before robbing someone. More emphasis needs to be put on the war on drugs and alcohol addiction. Put the taxpayers money to good use by stopping the spread of drugs, not on paying for more people inside if jails.
